FAQs

What kinds of fiction do you edit?

At Wildflower Editorial, I specialise in children’s, middle grade, young adult (YA), and new adult (NA) fiction. I work on a wide range of genres, including picture books, contemporary, fantasy, speculative fiction, and heartfelt coming-of-age stories. If your story is written for young readers or teens, I’d love to hear from you.

What’s the difference between a manuscript assessment and a developmental edit?

A manuscript assessment is a detailed editorial report that looks at the big-picture elements of your story—structure, plot, character arcs, tone, and pacing.

A developmental edit includes everything in a manuscript assessment, plus comments throughout your document (via Track Changes in Word). It’s more hands-on and provides deeper feedback to help you revise with confidence.

I’m not sure which editing service I need. Can you help me decide?

Yes! I offer free consultations to help you figure out what stage your manuscript is at and what kind of feedback will serve it best. Whether you’re just starting revisions or preparing to query, we’ll find the right fit for your story.

How much do editing services cost?

Pricing depends on the word count and the type of editing you need. Once I know more about your project, I’ll send you a no-obligation quote with a clear breakdown of what’s included.

Returning clients receive a 10% discount and I offer concession discounts.

What is beta reading and how is it different from editing?

Beta reading is a reader-focused service where I read your revised manuscript and give you feedback on five areas of your choice—like plot clarity, pacing, character believability, or emotional impact. It’s a great way to test if your edits have landed before moving into line editing or proofreading.

Beta reads include a written report tailored to your questions.

Do you work with first-time authors or unpublished writers?

Yes, I love working with debut authors and first-time writers. My feedback is always thoughtful, supportive, and focused on growth. Whether you’re writing your first novel or polishing your tenth, I’m here to help your story flourish.

How far in advance should I book an editor?

I usually book out 1–3 months ahead, especially for full edits. If you have a particular timeline in mind, get in touch early and we can pencil in your slot. I’ll confirm your place with a deposit and keep in touch as your start date approaches.
